Savas Matsas vs fascismo greco

Savas Matsas, segretario generale del Partito Rivoluzionario dei Lavoratori '(EEK) della Grecia, andrà a processo il 3 settembre 2013. Egli è stato accusato di "diffamazione" contro il partito fascista della Golden Dawn, perché un volantino rilasciato dal EEK e pubblicato nel suo giornale, il New Perspective, nel maggio 2009, aveva caratterizzato la Golden Dawn come organizzazione nazista che scatena attacchi razzisti contro immigrati e chiamato per la partecipazione a una manifestazione antifascista. Altre accuse contro di lui sono "istigazione alla violenza e il caos" e di "rottura della pace civile". Si presentano come cittadini innocenti e pacifiche, i fascisti stanno usando lo Stato borghese e le sue istituzioni al fine di condurre un assalto opposizione 'i lavoratori e la sinistra. In questo modo, intendono mettere a tacere la stampa di sinistra.

Lo Stato greco ha approvato questa attività dalla Golden Dawn e sta portando a processo il 3 settembre 2013, Savas Michael, insieme con l'ex preside della Università Tecnica Nazionale di Atene, il signor Costantino Moutzouris (accusato di permettere la trasmissione del l'alternativa sito web Athens Indymedia dallo spazio della University).

Allo stesso tempo, i nazisti hanno intensificato una non-stop campagna anti-semita e anti-comunista, feroce contro il segretario generale della EEK, accusandolo di essere "uno strumento del complotto ebraico mondiale a fomentare la guerra civile tra i greci a imporre un regime giudaico-bolscevica in Grecia ".

La polizia greca stanno collaborando con i fascisti della Golden Dawn, che non sono perseguite e persino arrestati, nonostante i loro attacchi, armati di pistole e pipistrelli, contro le persone e le organizzazioni che combattono. La magistratura, da parte sua, invece di indagare sulle aggressioni vigliacche e gli omicidi commessi da membri della Golden Dawn contro gli immigrati, sta cercando di intimidire le sezioni combattivi della classe operaia e della sinistra.

Savas Matsas, al fianco la sua lotta come un militante socialista, è un noto intellettuale ebreo greco con parziale ascendenza russa, un marxista, un internazionalista e un anti-sionista. Ha pubblicato numerosi libri, che spaziano dalla filosofia alla religione ed alla critica d'arte. Il suo ultimo libro si intitola Golem. Sulle Fantasmi oggetto e contenuto , in cui, a parte il suo tema principale, che ha saggi su Kafka, Hölderlin, Lacan, Philippe Lacoue-Labarthe, Hegel, Marx e alcuni moderni poeti greci come Andreas Embirikos.He è stato tradotto in molte lingue diverse ed è un assiduo collaboratore di British marxista rivista Critique .

Questo caso è un esempio di audacia della nuova acquisizione di movimenti fascisti, neo-fascisti o proto-fascista in Europa e la collusione di uno Stato democratico di auto-dichiarato con un tale movimento. La lotta contro di esso dovrebbe essere di natura internazionale. Già circa 2000 firme di solidarietà sono state raccolte a livello internazionale e nazionale ed altri stanno arrivando ogni giorno. Molte organizzazioni politiche e sindacali in Grecia e internazionale hanno espresso la loro indignazione e la solidarietà attraverso movimenti e messaggi. Il 29 agosto, una conferenza stampa si è tenuta nella sede dell'Unione dei Giornalisti di Atene (ESHEA).

Solidarietà in Grecia e il resto del mondo! Cadere tutte le accuse contro Savas Matsas e Costantino Moutzouris!

Mettiamo fine agli attacchi delle bande fasciste nelle strade, così come sotto la bandiera di un fronte unito della sinistra e della classe operaia.

L' incredibile storia di Alba Dorata continua: dopo la caccia all' immigrato e all' omosessuale, è ora la volta degli intellettuali di sinistra. I neonazisti greci, frutto della crisi economica, hanno citato in giudizio lo scrittore, medico e segretario del Partito Rivoluzionario del Lavoratori, Savvas Michaìl.

Sessantasei anni, medico specializzato in oncologia, Michail è uno degli esponenti di spicco della sinistra extraparlamentare greca, scrittore e profondo conoscitore della realtà politica del paese.

"Sono ebreo e comunista, peccato che non sia omosessuale (ovviamente non mi creerebbe alcun problema) perché così verrei considerato dai fascisti la vittima ideale", ha dichiarato poco dopo essere stato citato in giudizio da Alba Dorata.

Cosa è successo? Gli epigoni della dittatura dei colonnelli hanno denunciato Savvas Michaìl, in quanto colpevole - a loro avviso - di aver organizzato una manifestazione antirazzista in cui si chiedeva la chiusura degli uffici di "Chrysì Avghì", Alba Dorata, appunto.

Siamo arrivati ad una situazione che, sino a qualche tempo fa, sarebbe stata considerata di pura fantascienza: i neonazisti accusano di istigazione alla violenza e all'odio un intellettuale che li ha definiti fascisti e che ha chiesto, con pubbliche dichiarazioni, la chiusura delle loro sedi.

Tra i testimoni dell' accusa, una esponente del partito neonazi, Themis Skordeli, che deve rispondere del ferimento di un immigrato afgano, ma riesce sempre a rinviare le udienze, adducendo anche problemi psicologici. In queste ore si moltiplicano gli appelli e le manifestazioni di solidarietà in favore dei Michaìl, in Grecia e all' estero.

"Si tratta della primo attacco organizzato, a livello europeo, che cerca di usare lo strumento penale, contro le forze che si battono per depotenziare la minaccia fascista", sottolinea, in un suo commento, il quotidiano inglese Guardian.

A Roma, membri del Partito Comunista dei Lavoratori (forza gemella di quella greca, con a capo il medico e scrittore in questione) hanno manifestato davanti alla sede dell' ambasciata della Grecia, chiedendo che "non venga permesso a una forza razzista e violenta come Alba Dorata di far tacere voci critiche che denunciano la deriva a cui ci ha portato la crisi economica".

Professori universitari, registi, scrittori, deporranno in aula come testimoni della difesa in questo processo surreale. L'accusato, dovrebbe, ovviamente, venire assolto, altrimenti dalla farsa si potrebbe passare alla tragedia. Il messaggio, tuttavia, è ben chiaro: i neonazisti cercano di intimidire chiunque osi combatterli politicamente e criticare i metodi a loro tanto cari, basati su un misto di violenza, intolleranza e ignoranza.

Stop the prosecution of Savas Michael-Matsas and Constantinos Moutzouris

The International Committee of the Fourth International and the World Socialist Web Site emphatically oppose and denounce the state prosecution of Greek leftist Savas Michael-Matsas and academic Constantinos Moutzouris. They are the targets of a legal frame-up orchestrated by Greek fascists and their allies in the state.
Savas Michael is the General Secretary of the Greek EEK (Revolutionary Workers Party). He will stand trial in Athens on September 3. The fascist Golden Dawn group launched a lawsuit against him in his position as secretary of the EEK, accusing him of “defamation” and “incitement to violence and discord” for raising the slogan “smash fascism”, and of “disturbing the civil peace” by urging participation in an anti-fascist demonstration.
The Greek state authorities accepted the demand even though it related to an event four years ago, in May 2009, when the EEK issued a leaflet calling for participation in a protest against a murderous attack on immigrant communities in Athens by Golden Dawn.
Golden Dawn initiated a lawsuit that same month against various parties and organisations, including the Communist Party of Greece (KKE) SYRIZA, ANTARSYA and EEK, as well immigrant associations. Constantinos Moutzouris, who was at the time the dean of the National Technical University of Athens, was charged with having allowed the web site, Athens Indymedia, to broadcast from the campus.
It was not until after the Greek general elections in 2012 that the Greek police, under judicial order, began interrogations of those accused in the lawsuit. Only Savas Michael and Moutzouris were brought before the courts by the attorney general.
Golden Dawn has waged a filthy anti-Semitic campaign against Savas Michael, urging violent attacks upon him and accusing him of being “an instrument of the World Jewish Conspiracy to foment civil war among Greeks to impose a Judeo-Bolshevik regime in Greece.” Such language lays bare the fascistic agenda that underlies the legal persecution of Michael.
The ICFI has unbridgeable and extensively documented political differences with Savas Michael. Nevertheless, these differences do not lessen our opposition to his unjust prosecution, which is motivated by reactionary forces in Greece and directed against essential democratic rights. The clear intent of the coming trial is to silence opposition to a fascistic organisation with well-documented connections with the Greek state, its police and security apparatus. It is an attack on basic democratic rights such as free speech and freedom of the press.

Solidarity with Greek Antifascist - protest at the embassy

The Nazi organization “Golden Dawn” has launched a lawsuit against Savas Michael-Matsas, in his capacity as general secretary of the EEK (Workers Revolutionary Party), accusing him of “defamation” and “incitement to physical attacks”. At the same time, the Nazis circulate online photos of Michael Savas with the fierce anti-Semitic appeals to “Strike at the Jewish vermin”. The Greek State authorities have accepted the demand for defamation and the prosecution of Michael Savas. He has issued a statement:
“As you know, the Nazi Golden Dawn in Greece has started a legal action against the EEK and myself, its general secretary. I am accused of “defamation”, “instigation of violence” and “disruption of the civil peace”.
At the same time, the Nazis have intensified their non-stop, vicious, anti-Semitic and anti-communist campaign accusing me of being “the instrument of a world Jewish conspiracy to foment civil war, so as to impose a Judeo-Bolshevik regime in Greece”.
The Greek state has endorsed this action by Golden Dawn by bringing charges against myself, together with the former dean of the National Technical University of Athens, Mr Constantine Moutzouris (accused of permitting the
operation of the alternative website, Athens Indymedia, from within the university).
The trial will begin on September 3 2013. Already about 2,000 signatures of solidarity have been collected internationally and nationally, and more are
coming in every day. Many political and trade union organisations in Greece and internationally have expressed their solidarity. On August 29, a press conference will be held in the headquarters of the Union of Journalists in
Athens. We want to set out our case, as well as reporting on the solidarity we have received.
We want to ask you to kindly send messages of solidarity, signatures, motions, etc, to eek@eek.gr, in time to be presented both to the press and to the court.”
We strongly denounce this witch hunt launched by the Nazis, with the connivance of the Greek authorities, and demand an end to the persecution
of Michael Savas and all anti-fascists.

Solidarity with Michael-Matsas: Picket in London and Letter of Protest to Greek Ambassador
Socialist Fight, a British Trotskyist organization, has initiated a picket of the Greek Embassy for Saturday 31 August between 1 and 2 pm. The comrades have also drafted a letter to the Greek Ambassador which has been signed by representatives of several organizations, amongst them Michael Pröbsting on behalf of the Revolutionary Communist International Tendency (RCIT).

Dear Mr. Anastase Scopelitis,
We, the undersigned, are protesting today against of traill of Savas Michael-Matsas a Greek Jewish Marxist intellectual and General Secretary of the Workers’ Revolutionary Party (EEK) of Greece and Constantino Moutzouris, the former rector of the University of Athens, on 3 September 2013.
Savas Matsas is accused of “defamation” against the Greek openly Nazi party, the infamous “Golden Dawn”, for “instigation of violence and chaos” and “disruption of the civil peace” because, four years ago, in May 2009, the EEK has issued a leaflet calling for participation into an antifascist demonstration of protest against a murderous attack by the Nazis against the immigrant communities in Athens covered by the Greek police.
In December 2008, an important youth revolt had shaken the entire country following the murder of a 15 years old youth, Alexandros Grigoropoulos, by two police guards. The revolt continued for nearly for two months, in what Dominique Strauss Kahn, head of the IMF at that time, had rightly described as “the first political explosion of the current world financial-economic crisis”.
The police pogroms against the immigrants reached a climax in spring 2009, in Athens, in the neighbourhood of Aghios Panteleimonas, where Golden Dawn thugs terrorised the immigrants with the support of the local police. Left organizations had called for anti-fascist demonstrations. The EEK took part and issued a leaflet calling on the people to participate. The leaflet signed by the EEK as a political party was also published in the party newspaper NEA PROOPTIKI and presented in the party’s web site. This is the “crime” for which the General Secretary of the EEK is accused and put on trial.
In May 2009, leading members of the Golden Dawn, including Ilias Panagiotaros, now a member of the Greek Parliament, and Themis Skordeli (a woman with dark connections with the underworld, was accused of the assassination of an Afghan immigrant but who never was been charged), posed a lawsuit against the entire spectrum of the Greek left, from the Communist Party of Greece(KKE) and SYRIZA to the extra-parliamentary left, ANTARSYA and EEK, all the immigrant associations, and independent personalities like the Dean of the National Technical University of Athens Constantinos Moutzouris (accused to allow the alternative web site Athens Indymedia to broadcast from the space in the campus).
The lawsuit was not acted upon until late 2012, after the Greek elections of May and June 2012, when, the Golden Dawn was catapulted to Parliament from the margins of political life and the shadow of the State repressive apparatus. In November 2012, at the day celebrated nationally for decades now as the anniversary of the 1973 youth revolt in the Athens National Technical University(Polytechnic) against the military dictatorship of the colonels, the Greek Police, after receiving orders from the judiciary, started interrogations of all the accused in the Nazi lawsuit of 2009. In June 2013, from the dozens of the accused in the legal action of 2009, and interrogated in 2012, only Savas Michael(Sabetai) Matsas of the EEK was called to trial on September 3, 2013, together with the former Dean C. Moutzouris.
Simultaneously with this preposterous “legal” action, the Nazis have intensified a non-stop, vicious anti-Semitic and anti-communist campaign against the Secretary of the EEK, accusing him of being “an instrument of the World Jewish Conspiracy to foment civil war among Greeks to impose a Judeo-Bolshevik regime in Greece”. Pictures of Savas Michael are presented combined with anti-Semitic insults and openly death threats: “Crush the Jewish vermin!”
We wish to express our total opposition to the Greek state and government collaboration with the Nazi Golden Dawn in bringing these persecutions. We wish to express out outrage at the collaboration of the Greek state and government in failing to oppose and thereby collaborating with the vile anti-Semitic campaign against Savas Michael-Matsas and thereby against all Jews.
We demand that the charges against Savas Michael-Matsas and Constantino Moutzouris be dropped immediately and that the Greek state and government protect the immigrant community against the fascist assaults of the Golden Dawn and cease prosecuting their defenders.
