We denounce the aggression of the Zionist state to Iran
13 Giugno 2025
The aggression of the Zionist state to Iran is part of the Netanyahu government's warmongering policy. The same colonial state that is exterminating the Palestinian people is asserting its almighty power throughout the Middle East. After occupying Gaza, colonising the West Bank, attacking Lebanon, expanding its occupation of the Syrian Golan Heights, and bombing Yemen, Israel is now once again turning its missiles and bombers against Iran.
We do not recognise any right of the Zionist state and its arch-reactionary government. The demand that Iran renounce nuclear energy and nuclear weapons reflects the boundless arrogance of Israel and the imperialist powers that are backing Israel.
By what right do a colonial state equipped with nuclear weapons, and the imperialist nuclear powers arming it, presume to demand that the Iranian state renounce its own defence and military sovereignty? What right do powers responsible for every crime past and present have to act as the world's policemen? What international law can the Zionist state invoke? A state which has made a mockery of every right, starting with Palestine?
We have nothing in common with the reactionary theocratic regime in Tehran. A bloody regime that hangs trade unionists, imprisons and tortures opponents, oppresses women and the Kurdish minority, and represses social and democratic protests with the worst police methods. We have unambiguously sided, with all our strength, with the mass movement “Woman, life, freedom”. We have tirelessly denounced the campist logic of those in the West left-wing organizations and unions, who have embellished the reality of the Iranian regime in order to support the rival imperialist powers of Russia and China, presented as progressive or even “socialist” countries (China).
But it's the Iranian working class, the oppressed and exploited masses of Iran, who have the right to fight and overthrow the Iranian regime, using the methods of revolutionary struggle, and to do that aiming at their own alternative of power. It's certainly not the right of the colonial and genocidal state of Israel, nor the imperialist powers that arm and support it, in order to maintain their despotic control over the Middle East and the Arab nation.
For this reason, in the war unleashed by Israel against Iran, we side with Iran against Israel. Iran has every right to defend itself against Israel and to respond to its aggression. And the Houthis have this same right.
Israel could not act as it does, either in Palestine or in the entire Middle East, without the support of imperialism. The point is not to establish whether Israel's night-time attack on Iran was agreed upon, in terms of timing and methods, with USA (which was in any case warned by Israel) and European imperialist powers. It is possible and even probable that Netanyahu calibrate his moves in partial autonomy and in function of the survival at all costs of his government, even to avoid prison. But one fundamental truth remains: without the long-standing military support of the imperialist “democracies”, starting – but not only – with US imperialism, Israel could not do what it does. Neither the endless slaughter in Gaza nor the warmongering policy it pursues in the region. Imperialist complicity is the fundamental condition on which Israel relies.
Today more than ever the broadest mobilisation is needed against the colonial state of Israel and its warmongering policy, against the imperialist complicity which promotes it, in defence of Palestine, and now in defence of Iran.
Only the liberation from Zionism and imperialism of Palestine, of the Arab nation, of the entire Middle East, can bring a just peace to the region. This is inseparable from the right to self-determination of the Palestinian people and of all oppressed peoples.
For a free Palestine, united from the river to the sea. For a secular, socialist Palestine, within a socialist federation of the Middle East!
These are the same slogans of our Lebanese organisation, at the forefront of the resistance to Zionism.
PCL, the Italian section of the International Socialist League, will advance this stance to the national rally for Palestine on June 21 in Rome.
